Publishing Pessimists

Publishing industries continue to be cranky as they absorb more authors and fewer professionals.  Here's a blurb this month from April:

User anger as Amazon ends support for some older Kindles

I think everyone knows what a Kindle is.  What difference does it make if people can still keep getting books?  Probably some extra coffee will be necessary to make the trip.

As for publishers, it seems they have their own books pointed at each other, via Amazon.

Endless readers are not endless reading.

I will remain your author forever, dear readers.  Expect books, and more books are ahead.

Quick Quirks, A Quick Book receives its release today online at Amazon.  It seems we used to have a different way of doing this?  There are already people who are willing to list the book as used online.  The most important bit is that the book has been well-received as a book of humor.  Reviewers even stuck a Silver Award on it from Literary Titan.

Two things: I'm doing an author spotlight in the /r/books subreddit in about one week on Sunday, June 5, 11 AM - 6 PM (the thread title will probably be "IAmAn Author who traveled the US at eighteen and published a book about it.  AMA."), and I just found out that I've been published again, this time online in Van Gogh's Ear: Best World Poetry & Prose for my sonnet "A Figment of My Imagination," one of my favorites.  The post is May 27 under the link https://theoriginalvangoghsearanthology.com/ and here is that poem:

A figment of my imagination
Frequents as scream the swelling dream of night
Brought forth in potent exaggeration,
Familiar though it seems, yet more than tight
Than wide proportions of a common day
That cast no delusions and should repent
Fair consequence that stares and snares away
From constant scrutiny and overbite
For many a day sewn in tapestry
Of common dream from shouts of whim galore
That every waking has in tendency,
Rising into a hunch one should explore
That it should be that one alone will hear
The miscarriage of wind in his own snore.

The Best Insincerity

In anticipation of my book signing in three weeks, I'm sharing my poem "The Best Insincerity," published in issue 67 of Red Fez (available online), as a teaser:

Flattery is best insincerity
When it is insincere to compliment
With gilded lies that hide the truth surely
And boast ideal or opposite extent.
The goal is without exact modesty
That no reproach should come of description
In overcompensating vanity
With yeas where nays proliferate station.
The face bulges; the waist transcends all space;
The knees buckle; and belches sure appeal,
But this one becomes testament to race,
A real charmer, godlike and yet genteel.
No sarcasm pretends so criminal.
Obsequious is praise for unequal.
